C.V.Boys' book was a direct influence on Alfred Jarry's Exploits and Opinions of Doctor Faustroll (1898) where the eponymous hero cruises the streets of Paris in a Sieve. Boys (1855 - 1944) made a machine that blew smoke rings from his office window. Perfect exercises were accomplished when one completely encircled a passer-by. |
