Du Bois (1916 - 1993) immensely successful from his earliest years - his Elisabeth the Cow Ghost was published in 1935. He came from a family of artists and designers. He was a founding editor of the Paris Review, and later its art editor. His wry and artful books written and illustrated for kids should be better known.
