Sheila Jackson (1922-2011) was trained at the Central, taught at the Henrietta Barnett School in Hampstead, then returning to the Central and the Theatre department. In the 1950's after a run of autolithographed books, she joined the BBC set design department then to London Weekend where she was responsible for the costumes of Upstairs Downstairs. She wrote Simple Stage Costumes in 1968, Simple Puppetry in 1969 and Costumes for the Stage 1978. In 1993 came More Costumes for the Stage and the next year, Blooming Small, a City Dweller's Garden. Illustrated Books Two years after the Ballet book she did Music Time for Puffin. The same year she produced A First Book of Nursery Rhymes with thirty lithographs. The last book I have come across is an illustrated copy of Importance of being Ernest c1948. She was a most capable autolithographer. I scanned it again, to make sure I included the text pages with her figure drawings which I had neglected. from her Obituary in the Guardian |
