Illustrators who worked for the makers of cars and lorries in bringing pictures to newsprint, magazine pages, and promotional brochures, were a dedicated and accomplished breed. The ideal was to maintain your own illustrative style while doing (visual) justice to the particular excellencies of the product: styling, colour, tires, chrome and a context with maximum sexy reverberations. The rewards were of course immense, the distribution of your work extensive, and familiarity with your name among the non-art classes widespread. I have added examples form my collection without any ambitions of providing a comprehensive menu. |
